Table Talk Tuesday - Buttermilk Brownies from Fat Witch Bake Sale

Hello, hello!!

Welcome back to A Mascara Moment!

I made brownies and thought I would share my favourite recipe with you!

My all time favourite brownie recipe is from the book Fat Witch Bake Sale.  I tried this out a couple years ago when I had some buttermilk in the fridge I needed to use up.  It has been my staple, go to, brownie recipe ever since!

I love boxed mix brownies the most.  It is probably because those were the ones I grew up eating.  I love how they are chewy and fudgy with the crisp crust.  This is probably why the Fat Witch Buttermilk Brownie recipe is my all time favourite. It is the closest home made brownie in taste to the boxed mixed brownies of my childhood.

Any how, let's get to the recipe...

Buttermilk Brownie adapted from Fat Witch Bake Sale

Note:  My version is not gluten free.  I substituted flour for gluten free flour.

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all purpose baking flour
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 350F

Melt your butter and chocolate in the microwave.  I start with 30 seconds, stir everything and then put it back in for 10 second increments, stirring after each heating, until the chocolate is melted.

Put the butter/chocolate to the side to cool

Combine sugar, eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until completely mixed

Add cooled chocolate mixture and stir until combined and smooth

Add flour and chocolate chips into your liquids and fold in.  Do not over mix at this stage.

Add this to your lined and greased pan.  I like to use a 9x13 pan to get the crispy crust that I like.  If you use an 8x8 pan, you get a more cakey brownie.

Bake for 25-30 minutes

Let cool

I forgot to grease the edges, they stuck :(

Try not to eat them all in one sitting!  We failed at this.  They didn't last the day!

Let me know if you try this out!!

What is your favourite brownie recipe??

Take care and talk to you tomorrow!!
