Table Talk Tuesday - How I Meal Plan

Hello, hello!!

Welcome back to A Mascara Moment!!

I had all sorts of plans to do a post on my go to lunch meal - Black Bean Burgers, but then we all got sick and no extra cooking got done.  We are at the tail end now but still feeling yuck, so I thought I would show you all how I meal plan.

Not relevant at all, but just a yummy picture for you ;)

Sample Meal Plan

I meal plan on excel.  It seems extreme and unnecessary, but it helps me get organized and stay on point with my monthly food budget.  I am a terrible meal planner and have really needed to get it together now that I have to feed my son!

Me and My Husband

I meal plan from Sunday to Saturday that was I can do my food prep on the weekend.

I plan out all our food and then make the shopping list below.  I write down everything that I need to get the meals ready and then if I already have it in the house, I don't purchase it.

My husband and I are trying to lose weight, so our meal plans are super simple and boring.  This makes life really easy for me!

My Son

My son is a creature of extreme habit.  He likes to eat the same things for his meals and snacks.  Again, this makes meal planning very easy for me.  He eats smaller meals, multiple times a day.  He is almost two and tends to ask to eat when he is hungry, so I keep everything ready and on hand for when he is ready to eat!

He does ask for other meals, like spaghetti or rice instead of quinoa, so I always have those on hand, plus my parents live in our basement suite, so he has dinner with them a few times a week!

Well, there you have it, my super boring meal planning.  When we aren't on diets, the meal plan is a little more fun!  But this way keeps us accountable to our diets and to our budget.  The food budget can get out of hand very quickly, so this is the best way I have come up with to keep it under control.

Do you have any tips for me?

Thanks again for stopping by and be on the lookout next week for Black Bean Burgers!

Take care,
Jen
