Review - Kylie Cosmetics, Lip Kits and Lip Gloss

Review - Kylie Cosmetics, Lip Kits and Lip Gloss

Introduction:

I finally did it!!  I finally bought into the hype and ordered myself a small sampling of the Kylie Jenner Cosmetic line.  When I originally went to the website, I filled my online cart with everything and then I saw the total and edited it down to a few picks!

I know there has been lots of controversy/complaints/drama surrounding these products and I will touch on that a little later.  I want to go over my personal experience with you first and then get into the nitty gritty.

I had no problems with ordering.  I filled up my cart, checked out, they were shipped off a few days later, and they arrived at my door within a week of shipping.  I am in Canada, so I did have to pay 12% duty, which is the GST/PST amount here in BC.

The packaging is very cute and I had to wrestle most of it away from my 1 year old, who decided it was a great toy.

I purchased 4 products, 2 lip kits in Koko K and Candy K, 1 Gloss in Literally and 1 Metallic in King K.

Review:

1.)  Lip Kit in Koko K

Koko K is a pinky nude.  This was my favourite colour out of the two.  I can see myself wearing this as the perfect everyday colour or pairing it with a darker eye look.  The lip liner is smooth, clean and goes on easily with no dragging.  The liquid lipstick was easy to apply with a doe foot applicator and dried to a full matte.  I applied this by lining and filling in my lips with the pencil and adding a thin layer of the liquid lipstick on top.  I had no issues with dryness.  My lips were comfortable all day.  I did touch up with lip balm a few times.  The product did settle into the lines on my lips, but a quick swipe of lip balm spruced them right up.  It had great staying power and lasted on me all day with one touch up.

2.)  Lip Kit in Candy K

Candy K is a brown based nude with pink undertones.  The lip pencil and liquid lipstick acted that same as the Koko K.  I applied this in the same way as Koko K.  I really liked this colour as well.  It complimented even my super pale skin.  I did not find this drying at all.  I put it on in the morning, went about my day, had breakfast, chased my son around, did some yard work and completely forgot I was wearing it.  It has supernatural staying power.  It lasted all day.  I had to scrub it off with a make up wipe.  I only touched this up with lip balm twice in the day.

3.)  Lip Gloss in Literally

Literally is a sheer brown nude.  I am in love with this lip gloss.  The applicator is a cute little brush, making it easy to apply.  The formula goes on smooth and opaque.  It was not patchy or dry.  This wears well on it's own or over another lipstick.  I will be ordering more glosses.  Kylie Cosmetics just released Lip Gloss in all the Lip Kit shades, and as soon as they re-stock I am picking some of them up.

4.)  Metallic in King K

King K is a metallic gold with a brown undertone.  The formula is more of a mousse then a gloss.  It applied evenly and opaque with one swipe.  It dried down to a metallic matte on my lips.  I loved the formula and the colour is so fun.  It is a bit dark for me, but will look great over a pink or to create a fun ombre effect with my other shades.

Quick Review:

  • I loved all of these colours and formulas
  • I did not find them drying, but I know this is a problem that is reported a lot in reviews
  • I exfoliated and moisturized my lips before I used the lip kits and touched up with balm through out the day
  • I recommend all of them and will purchase more - but, please be aware of the reports about the mattes being extremely dry

Controversy:

I want to address one of the biggest controversies surrounding Kylie Cosmetics:  the Metallic Glosses being shipped out half empty.  This is just my take on it, and I would love to hear your in the comments below.

These products are sold by weight, not bottle.  The King K is sold as net wt. 0.11fl. oz or 3ml.  I would guess that the mousse metallic formula is heavier then the liquid mattes and gloss.  Until someone scrapes out all the liquid and weighs it, I don't think this should even be a controversy.

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope my review has been informative and helps some of you decide for or against putting your order in.

Take care,
Jen
