National Lipstick Day - My Top Ten

Hello, Hello!

In honour of National Lipstick Day (which is apparently a thing...hmmm) I am going to run down my top ten lipsticks, plus one bonus colour!

This is a quick post, no reviews, just some swatches.

Let's get to it...

Kylie Cosmetics-Koko K, Covergirl-Coral Cat, Revlon-Blusing Mauve, Mac-Craving, Urban Decay-Ex-Girlfriend, Mac-Pinkfringe, Mac-Creme Cup, UD-Native, Mac-Cream In Your |Coffee, Clinique-Black Cherry, UD Lovechild

Koko K, Coral Cat, Cream Cup, Cream in My Coffee, Craving

Ex-Girlfriend, Native, Lovechild, Blushing Mauve, Black Cherry

The Proenza Schouler lipstick, Pinkfringe, is one of my most reached for colours.  It was a LE colour and is not available anymore, which is why it isn't in the top ten line up.  If you can find it, order it!

What are your top ten?

Happy National Lipstick Day!!

Jen

Covergirl Katy Kat Mattes: Review and Swatches

Covergirl Katy Kat Mattes:  Review and Swatches

What a week.  This review was supposed to be out on Monday, but my son got sick and then I got sick.  Anyways...

Today we are swatching and reviewing all 11 of the Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks

Introduction:

Covergirl and Katy Perry have teamed up to make a line of 11 lipsticks and  1 mascara (review coming soon).  The lipsticks are termed "demi mattes" which I take to mean that they give a matte appearance without being dry and chalky.

The packaging is simple and clean.  The lipstick caps have a rubber like texture that reminds me of the Nars packaging.  It feels luxurious and high end.  I dropped one of the lipstick tubes on my hardware floors and it didn't crack or damage the lipstick.

Swatches:

10 of the 11 lipsticks swatch and apply the same.  They go on smooth and opaque and only need one coat to achieve the perfect lip.

Perry Panther was the exception.  It applies thin and takes 2-3 coats to become opaque and smooth.

Sphynx:  A light pinky nude; Pink Paws:  A bright watermelon pink; Magenta Minx:  Bright cool toned pink;  Catoure:  Brown toned pink

Cat Call:  Classic Pink; Coral Cat:  Bright Orange Toned Coral;  Kitty Purry:  Mauve;  Cosmo Kitty:  Bright Lavender

Maroon Meow:  Dark reddish purple;  Crimson Cat:  Pink based, blue tone red;  Perry Panther:  Black

Reviews:

I adore all of these lipstick shades.  Each shade I try is better then the next.  The range of the line is perfect and covers every lipstick colour you could ever want or need.  I find myself reaching for these every single day.

All colours, except Perry Panther, go on smooth, opaque and are extremely comfortable to wear.

The staying power is average and will require multiple application through out the day.

Perry Panther is gorgeous and comfortable to wear, but does not apply opaque after one coat.  I primarily used it to darken the other lipstick colours.

The term "demi-matte" is deceiving.  These do not set to a matte.  They are more of a dewy matte, which is an oxymoron, so I would just say they are a traditional creamy lipstick.

Pros:  Colour range, consistency, opaqueness, packaging, everything (lol)

Cons:  Staying power, Perry Panther is not opaque after one coat, not matte

Conclusion:

I recommend all of these colours.  If you decide to pick up a celebrity collab this year, this is the one.

Buy one or all eleven!!  You won't regret it.

Have you tried the Katy Kat Matte Line Up?

What did you think of it?

Take care,
Jen

Louis Vuitton Comparison - Zippy VS Clemence

Louis Vuitton Comparison - Zippy VS Clemence

A Louis Vuitton Wallet Showdown:  Zippy VS Clemence

Introduction:

Today I would like to do a quick comparison of two of my favourite Louis Vuitton wallets.  The Clemence and the Zippy.  I have the monogram Clemence with Rose Ballerine interior and the Vernis Zippy in LE Stephen Sprouse Leopard.  I have broken the comparison down into Size, Capacity and Details.

The Monogram Clemence currently retails for $610CAD.
The Monogram Zippy currently retails for $930CAD.

Size:

Clemence:  Length 19cm, Height 9cm
Zippy:  Length 19cm, Height 10cm

The Clemence is only 1cm shorter then the Zippy, but is makes a world of difference.  The Clemence is much more compact in size and fits comfortably in small bags.  The zippy is a full sized wallet and requires a larger bag.

Capacity:

Clemence:  8 card slots, 2 patch pockets, zippered coin pocket, 2 open compartments
Zippy:  8 card slots, 2 patch pockets, zippered coin pocket , 4 open compartments

I can fit the exact same amount of cards, cash and random debris in both wallets; however, everything fits more comfortably in the Zippy.  The extra capacity afforded by the 3 gusseted compartments helps to organize and increase overall accessibility to the items.

Details:

Clemence:  Coloured Leather zipper Pull
Zippy:  Metal Zipper Pull

The price point of the Zippy is justified by nicer details.  The metal zipper pull is more durable and has a richer feel to it.

The leather tab on the Clemence is sturdy and super cute, but shows wear and requires extra care to keep it looking clean.

Conclusion:

I love both of these wallets.  I use the Zippy more because of the capacity, but the Clemence is perfect for when I want to go more compact.  I hate having to carry an additional card holder, so a must for me when it comes to wallets is that they hold all of my stuff.  These two both fit the bill.

I have no con list when it comes to these two wallets.  Totally unhelpful, I know!

Which would you chose?  What is your favourite wallet?

Take Care,
Jen

Review - Kylie Cosmetics, Lip Kits and Lip Gloss

Review - Kylie Cosmetics, Lip Kits and Lip Gloss

Introduction:

I finally did it!!  I finally bought into the hype and ordered myself a small sampling of the Kylie Jenner Cosmetic line.  When I originally went to the website, I filled my online cart with everything and then I saw the total and edited it down to a few picks!

I know there has been lots of controversy/complaints/drama surrounding these products and I will touch on that a little later.  I want to go over my personal experience with you first and then get into the nitty gritty.

I had no problems with ordering.  I filled up my cart, checked out, they were shipped off a few days later, and they arrived at my door within a week of shipping.  I am in Canada, so I did have to pay 12% duty, which is the GST/PST amount here in BC.

The packaging is very cute and I had to wrestle most of it away from my 1 year old, who decided it was a great toy.

I purchased 4 products, 2 lip kits in Koko K and Candy K, 1 Gloss in Literally and 1 Metallic in King K.

Review:

1.)  Lip Kit in Koko K

Koko K is a pinky nude.  This was my favourite colour out of the two.  I can see myself wearing this as the perfect everyday colour or pairing it with a darker eye look.  The lip liner is smooth, clean and goes on easily with no dragging.  The liquid lipstick was easy to apply with a doe foot applicator and dried to a full matte.  I applied this by lining and filling in my lips with the pencil and adding a thin layer of the liquid lipstick on top.  I had no issues with dryness.  My lips were comfortable all day.  I did touch up with lip balm a few times.  The product did settle into the lines on my lips, but a quick swipe of lip balm spruced them right up.  It had great staying power and lasted on me all day with one touch up.

2.)  Lip Kit in Candy K

Candy K is a brown based nude with pink undertones.  The lip pencil and liquid lipstick acted that same as the Koko K.  I applied this in the same way as Koko K.  I really liked this colour as well.  It complimented even my super pale skin.  I did not find this drying at all.  I put it on in the morning, went about my day, had breakfast, chased my son around, did some yard work and completely forgot I was wearing it.  It has supernatural staying power.  It lasted all day.  I had to scrub it off with a make up wipe.  I only touched this up with lip balm twice in the day.

3.)  Lip Gloss in Literally

Literally is a sheer brown nude.  I am in love with this lip gloss.  The applicator is a cute little brush, making it easy to apply.  The formula goes on smooth and opaque.  It was not patchy or dry.  This wears well on it's own or over another lipstick.  I will be ordering more glosses.  Kylie Cosmetics just released Lip Gloss in all the Lip Kit shades, and as soon as they re-stock I am picking some of them up.

4.)  Metallic in King K

King K is a metallic gold with a brown undertone.  The formula is more of a mousse then a gloss.  It applied evenly and opaque with one swipe.  It dried down to a metallic matte on my lips.  I loved the formula and the colour is so fun.  It is a bit dark for me, but will look great over a pink or to create a fun ombre effect with my other shades.

Quick Review:

  • I loved all of these colours and formulas
  • I did not find them drying, but I know this is a problem that is reported a lot in reviews
  • I exfoliated and moisturized my lips before I used the lip kits and touched up with balm through out the day
  • I recommend all of them and will purchase more - but, please be aware of the reports about the mattes being extremely dry

Controversy:

I want to address one of the biggest controversies surrounding Kylie Cosmetics:  the Metallic Glosses being shipped out half empty.  This is just my take on it, and I would love to hear your in the comments below.

These products are sold by weight, not bottle.  The King K is sold as net wt. 0.11fl. oz or 3ml.  I would guess that the mousse metallic formula is heavier then the liquid mattes and gloss.  Until someone scrapes out all the liquid and weighs it, I don't think this should even be a controversy.

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope my review has been informative and helps some of you decide for or against putting your order in.

Take care,
Jen

Note:  All products were purchased by me, with my own money, and all opinions are my own and reflect my personal experience with the products discussed.

Current Handbag Wish List

Today's blog post is inspired by the blogger/youtuber Chase Aime.  If you aren't subscribed to her youtube channel or her website, you need to go and do that and then come back here!

Current Handbag Wish List

This is a list of all the handbags I am currently coveting, loving and obsessing over, but do not actually own yet.

The criteria for this list is easy;  if I won the lottery tomorrow, which bags would I rush out and buy right away.

I also explain a little bit about why these bags made the list.

So here we go, my current handbag wishlist...

Chanel GST with GHW

I have the Chanel GST with Silver Hardware and have decided to sell it.  (if you are interested, head over to Skup Consignment).  I purchased the SHW version pre-loved and am in love with the size, accessibility, way it carries and the gorgeous leather.  I am on the look out for one in new or near new condition.  This became my go to, everyday bag before I listed it for sale.  It is perfection.

Chanel Medium Classic Flap in Lambskin

My husband and I went out to dinner with friends the other night and I realized the hole in my collection is that I don't have a dressy evening bag.  All my bags are either large sized or casual.  I don't know if I want silver or gold hardware or if I want a vintage or new bag.  I am just going to keep my eyes open for a good deal and a perfect fit.

Louis Vuitton Speedy B 30

The Speedy B 30 in Damier Ebene is one of those all around perfect, must have bags.  It can be worn multiple ways, and the print literally goes with everything.  This bag will  likely be my next purchase!  Stay tuned...

Mansur Gavriel Mini Mini Bucket in Black/Dolly

Until I can find the perfect Chanel Medium, I think this is the ideal stand in for a smart and classy evening bag.  The large and Medium sizes are a little too big and more suited to everyday bags.  I am just waiting for the website to restock this combo (and the Canadian dollar to improve) and this will be mine!

YSL Blogger Bag in Dusty Rose

I am a huge fan of YSL bags.  The leather is divine and the designs are always fun and edgy.  My Muse is one of my most used bags.  This adorable little Blogger Bag is the perfect cross body for a quick grab and go back to take anywhere.  I go between this one and the Gucci Disco, but I prefer the overall look of the Blogger bag.

Well, that is my little list.  I hope it inspires you!  Let me know what is on your wish list, or if you have any suggestions for mine!

You can also keep updated with my wish list on my company pinterest page Skup Consignment.

Take care,
Jen
